FOR THE DUCKS
After too long a time dealing with other life issues, I'm excited to be back standing in front of an easel most days. I'm painting in oils but really excited about some new ideas and direction.
My husband and I are birders, better than beginners but certainly not expert. I particularly love the ducks (and close relatives) and their dazzling colors, patterns and forms. It's hard not to laugh at the bill of the Northern Shoveler which resembles a scoop more than a bill. When raising his hood to attract females, the hooded merganser is a feast for human eyes as well as female mergansers. The mallard is so common that we don't even notice their luminous color scheme and iridescence. I intend to put some of them front and center so others might look afresh and appreciate their beauty. At the same time, I always thrill to a beautiful landscape and am painting afew that are home to the ducks, providing shelter, food and places to rest and nest. In this endeavor, I have created a new category in my WORKS section that is FOR THE BIRDS.
I swoon at art nouveau design and motifs be it in architecture, furniture, jewelry, or any other art form. So I have decided to combine my love of ducks and art nouveau and have each element complement the other. You will notice a hand painted frame craddling each duck. The nouveau designs are original although inspired from the early years of the 20th century.
Look for new duck paintings in the coming weeks.
